Cool Things for Hot Days
Ride the Hatton Ferry across the James River. For more information call Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society at (434) 296-1492. South on Hwy 20 to Scottsville, West on Rt 726 and then left on Rt 625.
Tube around the town! Tube the James River in Scottsville. Rent canoes and kayaks at the county lakes for an energetic workout or a lazy afternoon on the water. Info on local outfitters can be found at the Visitors Bureau or rented through the Parks and Recreation department.
Swim and Spray
- Washington Park Pool offers free swimming sessions.
- Belmont Park, Greenleaf Park, and Forest Hills Park all offer free Spray Gardens.
- Get wet inside at Crow Recreation Center's heated indoor pool.
- Check out Charlottesville's new Smith Pool- a 24,000 sq ft facility with water slides, lazy river, fitness area, classes and fun activities for the kids.
Life's a Beach
Great parks, including Chris Greene Lake, Mint Springs Valley, and Walnut Creek offer wonderful freshwater lake swimming and sandy shores for sunning and picnicking along with hiking trails ranging from a leisurely stroll to a full-out workout.
