Albemarle has 28.5 miles of trails which can be used for walking, running and hiking. Select the best path and distance for your needs from the variety of Greenways and Trails. Looking to stay urban? Multiuse and nature trails wind through the City too.
The Greenbelt Trail — 2.3 miles along the Rivanna River. Access at Riverview Park located at the end of Chesapeake Street off Meade Avenue. Open everyday from a.m. to dusk. FREE
Rivanna Trails — Around 20 miles of trails around the city with 12 miles of trail along our local waterways. Open everyday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. For information or a free trail guide call (434) 923-9022
Ivy Creek Natural Area — Bird watching and more! The Ivy Creek natural Area offers over 7 miles of walking trails, a wildlife observation area, and many interesting programs year ‘round. For more information call (434) 973-7772.
Preddy Creek Trails Park- Albemarle's newest park boasts 571 acres with 8.6 miles of trail for hiking, running, biking, or horseback riding. Open everyday from 7 a.m. to dark!
Campgrounds
Roll out a sleeping bag at Greenwood’s Misty Mountain Camp Resort or Charlottesville KOA

Gone Fishin’
They’re always biting at the Rivanna Reservoir, Lake Albemarle, and James River. If you’re 16 or older, you’ll need a license. Call the Department of Games and Inland Fisheries for more information (434) 296-4731.
Park It
Charlottesville boasts twenty-five, Albemarle has nine; 34 in all — fabulous parks. Picnic, set play dates, play tennis, swim, fish, golf, picnic, boat, hike, skateboard, you can do it all in a park!
